On Wednesday (16th) I had a little bit of bad luck. As in, I forgot to change the resolution back to high definition on my camera before I took snapshots of Asakusa‘s sights. The reason for the low quality was to save space on my camera’s memory for all the pictures I took of Famicom cartridges. They were for a friend of mine who was interested in having me import some games; for a fee of course. So all of the following pictures are in 640×480 resolution… Sorry about that. Once I return to Tokyo, I’ll try to retake these shots again, but for now this is all I have. The giant gate with the 提灯 chōchin [lantern] is called the 雷門 Kaminarimon. While the temple, which is under construction, is called 金龍山浅草寺 Kinryū-zan Sensō-ji.
The last time I was in Japan, I lived a few blocks from Asakusa. Coming back didn’t give me any nostalgic memories, but more of a “typical thing to see” kind of attitude. I was very nonchalant about this little excision. You can’t blame me though, I saw it every day for six months straight. However, it was my last big sight to see in Tokyo before I headed off north to Hokkaido. I was still glad that I went.
For some extra pictures, here are some kittens I found on the way to Asakusa. I got to pat one! :3
