After 4 years, I have finally returned home to the land of the rising sun! I arrived at Narita airport around 15:30 after a pleasant 12 hour plane ride from Toronto Canada. I say pleasant, because Air Canada feed me 3 meals with plenty of snacks and drinks, along with having a front row window seat with lots of leg room. They also had a On Demand entertainment touchscreen, and a USB plug for charging my gadgets. Air Canada is the best airlines hands down in my book for those features alone. The shorter flight time compared to my last trip and the cheap ticket price was just a bonus.
My train ride from Narita airport to Tokyo was a trip trough nostalgia land; I seriously could not stop smiling. However, at the same time I had a sense that I only left Japan for just a month or so… After arriving in Tokyo, as if by instinct, I carried on with my daily Tokyo life. I casually walked to my youth hostel without glancing at my map more than once, purchased my new Suica Japan Railway card, walked around Akihabara for a little while, and ordered dinner at a small bar at my old stomping grounds near Iriya station off the Hibiya line. I truly felt like I was back home again.
After dinner I headed back to my youth hostel and went to bed early. I’m not too fond of the curfew regulations here. They lock their doors at 23:00, and no one can get in or out of the complex until 06:30. Other than that I can’t complain, especially when its ¥3000 ($32.49) a night.
I awake at 05:00 with a lovely headache, probably due to dehydration from the Yebisu beer the other night. I took 3 pictures of my hostel and then made my way down to the lounge where I am now, posting this blog entry. There will be more pictures later on this evening, but I don’t want to spend too much time with this post. So with out further adieu, here are those three pictures. Of course I needed to keep my old blogging tradition and make my first post contain a Japanese toilet.
I translated the Japanese text in the middle picture for those who are curious. Just click on the image to see.
This post might be adjusted later due to site alterations.
